November already? Updates!

David & I just returned from a trip to Portland where we had a housewarming party for Molly & Chris and their new home. Pictured here with Dexter dog. We also went to the Oregon Coast and met up with one of my Weight Watcher on-line friends. Ellie & Jim are full-time RVers and were spending some time in Oregon. Ellie and I are pictured in the 2nd photo above. Prior to that my sister, mon & I went to Florida for my dear aunt Alice's 95th birthday celebration. It's been a busy fall but now we are headed into winter and will stay home for several months.

60th birthday Alaskan cruise, August 9-16

It's been a very eventful time since my last update. David & I celebrated our 22nd wedding anniversary on July 18. We went out for dinner with family and had a great evening. July 21 was my 1 year surgery anniversary and I am pleased with my 125 lb weight loss! August 9 David & I, Molly & Chris, mom, Peggy, Diane and Carol departed from Seattle for our long awaitied Alaskan Inside Passage cruise to celebrate my 60th birthday. What a wonderful week it was too. We did miles and miles of walking. Peggy treated me to a spa pass for the week so I did lots of soaking in the therapeutic mineral pool. I am a very lucky woman! I am grateful for my health, my family, my wonderful husband and my renewed energy. Mary Pat

April/May updates

Haven't updated in a while. The picture to the left is my two nephews, Nicholas & Cameron on Easter Sunday. Above left is Molly & I in Portland on their deck this past Monday. Above right is mom on Mohter's day.
My weightloss has slowed down but then I have not been as diligent about going to Curves. Got to get moving again. I am down 117 lbs though so not complaining. I feel WONDERFUL. That is when I am not sleep deprived from working night shift!

Our celebratory dinner at Red Lobster tonight

This is a red letter day for me! 100 pounds lost forever, never to be found again! I feel great. Had my 6 month post-op visit recently and my labs are all perfect. The surgeon called me a "poster child" for bariatric surgery! David & I are going to Red Lobster tonight to celebrate!

87 pounds gone forever

I am dressed and ready to go to Curves for my workout. Yes, that's what I said--WORKOUT! never would have thought I would say (or do) that! Amazing what a difference 87 pounds can make. All is well. David had his back surgery a week ago and doing fine. Molly & Chris are coming next week for Christmas. I am looking forward to the holidays because I know I can and will enjoy them without gaining weight. Some of you have asked about Molly & Chris's dog, Dexter, so I'll post a photo next. He is Mr. Personality! Cute, too! So---until next time, Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

Update: 80 pounds gone forever

November 17, 2008

This is my 80 pounds gone photo. I feel great and today I returned to where I retired from 2+ years ago. Some people didn't recognize me. I got re-hired there and will start December 8. It is part-time, night shift in the Cardiac ICU. I am excited about going back.

This weekend we will go to Portland and help Molly & Chris get settled in their new apartment.

3 months post surgery update!

Here I am 3 months after my surgery and down 70 pounds. All is well. My old wardrobe is completly gone and I'm needing new clothes. I have shrunk into some things from Molly & Peggy and have bought a few things. Tonight I am joining Curves to get on a more comprehensive exercise routine.

Oregon Coast Trip

We are in Rockaway Beach on the beautiful coast of Oregon. We have had perfect weather. Molly & Chris joined us on Monday night. We are having a wonderful time. Yesterday we hiked to Cape Mears Lighthouse. I did that trek when I was 61 lbs. heavier and beleive me, it was a lot harder then! I am posting a few pictures of our week so far. Today we are off to Cannon Beach & Seaside.

Today is my 5 week anniversary since surgery. I am down a solid 50 lbs total (20 since surgery)! I will try to post a pic just taken 2 days ago of my brother Chris & I at his 50th birthday party. The Fred Flintstone costume goes along with the dinosaur theme of his party. I am enjoying eating fish or seafood almost every day. I feel good and am happy with the progress.

My journey to better health

My daughter & I share so much and are so much alike. We have always teased each other with the words, "apple don't fall far from the tree". Thus, the name of my blog. We are now sharing a journey to better health. I am 58 years old and Molly is 31. We are both undergoing weightloss surgery and the purpose of this blog is to track and share my progress. I will share Molly's progress with you only as she gives me permission to do so.

My surgery, gastric bypass is scheduled for July 21, 2008 in Post Falls, Idaho. Molly had lapband surgery June 27, 2008 in San Diego. I will attempt to post some pictures as well. Love & support from family and friends is very important to us. We are both lucky to have husbands who support us 100% in the path we have chosen to take.
